Saturnian Stroke in the Making

Last Sunday 12, the Moon stood in its fullness as part of a peculiar planetary configuration. From Virgo’s last decanate, our glowing satellite simultaneously opposed the Sun, Chiron and Mercury, all located in Pisces. The four stars, in turn, formed a critical angle with Saturn, which remains in the last degrees of Sagittarius, absorbing and maximizing all that accumulated energy.

The last week of the astral year commences under special conditions: Saturn, receiving and channeling a surplus of interplanetary energy; and our two luminaries—the most powerful and influential of the system we are part of—enlivening the processes of social interaction and power struggle, thanks to this saturnine mediation.

Next Friday 17, three days before the Equinox shall have occurred, the Sun and Saturn will form with each other an exact ninety-degree angle, marking thereby the beginning of the second phase of their synodic cycle, which culminates 9 months later, when both merge at the beginning of Capricorn.

The Lord of Time—as Saturn’s personification is also known— symbolizes the exercise of Power and the imposition of Authority. The celestial body will reach Capricorn— its natural domicile, and where it attains greater power— within three quarters, i.e., next December 20, on the eve of the Winter Solstice, when the calendar year shall be dying.

Saturn’s transit through each of the twelve zodiacal signs, which lasts a little more than two years, is reenacted every 30 years; creating a sort of political cycles in the context of social relations. Saturn’s last visit to Capricorn took place in the period November 1988 – February 1991, which was rich in events having to do with drastic transformations of political structures.

The previous Sun-Saturn conjunction in Capricorn happened in January 1991, within the last degrees of the sign, during the process of the Soviet Union’s very  dissolution, final flick of the tail of the Cold War, and preparation of the new world order, with its globalizing tendency .

The next annual conjunction of the Sun and Saturn in the sign of the Iberian ibex —27 years later— will bear an extraordinary character: instead of occurring in the final sections of that sidereal sector, it will be consummated at the very portal of the sign. It will happen for the first time after three and a half centuries; the previous similar event having occurred on December 20, 1664.

The nine-month period that separates us from such a significant congregation of forces, solar and saturnine, under the deep imprint of the Capricorn threshold, will constitute a sort of spring-training in the management of power, allowing for the fine tuning of the most severe manifestations in the exercise of political, social, economic and military control.

Saturn‘s leading role during the week, with all its planetary connections, is a clear sign of the preponderance of the exercise of control, power and authority throughout the period, from now until the end of the year. This last week of the northern winter may give us sufficient indications of what could be expressed in the next saturnine winter: as a sort of militant authoritarian escalation.

The Sun is already approaching the terrestrial equator, and will cross same on Monday, the 20th of March, in its pilgrimage towards the north. This will be the equinoctial moment defining the beginning of spring in the north, and autumn in the south. It also represents the entrance of the Sun into Aries, and the beginning of a new sidereal round of our planet.

The change in the energetic quality of the cosmos represented by this beginning of the new astral year, has already begun being felt through our neighboring planets, which are thought of as connected with the internal functions of the human being: the instinctive impulses of survival, represented by Mars; the feelings, associated with Venus; and the processes of thought and communication, attributed to Mercury.

These three personal planets are adapting to their new conditions: Mars, initiating its Taurus phase, Venus absorbed in its retrograde motion, and Mercury opening the way for the Sun, in its path through the first degrees of Aries. In this manner, individual and personal experiences prepare towards facing the challenges that social order and political structures try to impose on the community.
