Innovation Competition in Latin America and the Caribbean

NEXSO, an online international development platform created by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, is partnering with the Mi Sangre Foundation to identify and support programs in Latin America and the Caribbean that use creative models for preventing violence and resolving conflict among young people. The “Youth Designing New Realities” Challenge welcomes applications from a variety of civil society organizations that work with and for youth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The application period for the Challenge opened September 16th, 2014, and will close at 5 PM Eastern Time on November 25th, 2014. Applicants will use NEXSO to submit information about their projects, which must have been in operation for at least one year. The winning organization will receive a cash prize of US$2,000. Two other projects will be selected to receive second and third prizes in the form of technical support.

NEXSO, a new initiative, is a networking platform and resource for the greater international development community, and offers tools and opportunities for social innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and others to interact, promote, and crowdsource development solutions. NEXSO works with foundations, corporations, international development organizations, and on Challenges, competitions that identify and reward original and noteworthy approaches to addressing given development challenges.

The Mi Sangre Foundation, founded by the Colombian singer and composer Juan Esteban Aristizábal, better known as Juanes, was created out of the belief that peace can be built from small initiatives for change.

The Challenge winners will be selected by a panel of expert judges: Tomas de Lara, Co-founder of Engage; Amalia Arango of Arbelaez, and member of the Advisory Council ofMi Sangre Foundation; Eduardo Marisca, Digital Innovator from La Victoria Lab; Ilaina Rabbat, Executive Director of Amani Institute; Felipe Buitrago Restrepo, Consultant in the IDB’s Division of Cultural Affairs, Solidarity and Creativity, and Ivonette Albuquerque, ;President of the Instituto Stimulu Brasil/Galpão Aplauso.
