Escuché por ahí que existía una ruta que se recorre a pie, que cruza las montañas y la selva hasta llevarte a las ruinas de Machu Picchu.
Así me entró esa extraña idea de llegar a Machu Picchu a pie.
Me llevó cinco días llegar… Este fue el cuarto de ellos.
Esa mañana me levanté tarde. Me había quedado completamente solo en el campamento.
En lo que me fui acercando al pueblo más cercano a Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes, empecé a ver los carriles de un tren. También encontré a grupos de turistas que caminaban en dirección contraria a la mía para llegar a la parada de autobús que lleva a Cusco.
Me quedaban todavía siete horas de camino.
De repente sentí que mi aventura había terminado. Me uní a una masa de personas que caminaba entre los carriles del tren. Sin duda yo era el que estaba más sucio y sudado de todos. Por el resto del día no dejé de pensar en cuanto deseaba bañarme.
I heard there is a trekking route where you can cross some mountains and walk through the jungle. At the end you arrive to the Machu Picchu Ruins.
So I got this weird idea about going to Machu Picchu by foot.
It took me five days… This was the forth one.
That morning I woke up a bit late. I was completely alone at the camping place.
As I got closer to the nearest town to Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes, I saw the railroad tracks for the first time. There were also a bunch of other tourists heading in the other direction to get to the bus back to Cusco.
Then I sat down in one of these shacks and bought myself a bottle of water. I still got 7 hours to go.
I suddenly got this feeling that my adventure was over. I saw this mass of people walking along the tracks and realized that I was by far the dirtiest and sweatiest of all. The last few hours I was just thinking about taking a shower.
